Neo is the main character.  During the day he is an office worker named Thomas Anderson, who works under his boss Mr. Rhineheart.  However, he is also a hacker named Neo.  Who hacks stuff.  For people.  And they pay him for it.  The hacking.  Right.  Anyway.  There is a group of people who know that Neo is really living in "The Matrix," who are on a ship called the Nebacanezzer, and Neo is their next target.  Why?  Because they think he is "The One," who will save the world from the machines that control it.

 

Trinity has a strong female lead, she is very cool!  She is the one who first approaches Neo and tells him about "Morpheus."  She hacks onto his computer and tells him, "The Matrix has you."  Then she lures him to a party and tells him that Morpheus has the answer to the question (he's supposed to know what all this is) and then she disappears.  Later she is obviously flirting with him but although he's ok with all this weird stuff happening he can not tell if a girl likes him (this may sound like criticism but it isn't.  I'm just commenting.)

 

Morpheus is this mysterious guy in a trenchcoat who calls Neo on a cell phone and tells him, "I do not know if you are ready for what I have to tell you, but you and I have run out of time.  They are coming for you, Neo, and I don't know what they will do if they find you."  Or something like that anyway.  So Neo stands up and sees these agent guys lurking around the office building, heading for his little cubicle.  So he follows Morpheus's directions, mysteriously Morpheus knows exactly where everything is, but he freaks out when Morpheus tells him to climb out a window that is like 15 stories high.

Anyway, Morpheus thinks he is "The One" so he is going to risk his life to protect him and all this.

 

Agent Smith is the bad guy person.  He talks very slowly and is exceptionally cool because he is Hugo Weaving.  He is one of 3 agents who can jump into anyone's body at random (except for Neo and Morpheus and his crew, people who know about The Matrix) and control them, then right when they're about to die jump out of the body and be ok.  They are determined to destroy those who know about the matrix and still control anyone, cause they're like machines themselves. 

 

Mouse is one of the guys with Morpheus.  He is the funniest character in the whole movie, he's the best!  Anyway.  Ahem.  Mouse is this little guy who is funny and stuff.
